Save the date and mark your diaries – 14 May 2024, 5pm
NZ Asian Lawyers in conjunction with the New Zealand Law Society are pleased to present an interactive evening with the Hon Paul Goldsmith, who has agreed to speak to his portfolios of relevance to lawyers as Minister of Justice, Minister of State-Owned Enterprises and Minister of Treaty Negotiations. The Minister will briefly highlight his vision and key priorities in each of these portfolios and then be interviewed by the President of New Zealand Asian Lawyers Mai Chen about key issues and questions relevant to the effective and efficient operation of the legal system, the future of SOEs and Treaty negotiations. Those attending will be invited to contribute to these questions and issues when they RSVP.
The Minister will then be joined by Frazer Barton, President of the New Zealand Law Society, for a discussion of topics relevant to the profession, such as greater use of remote appearances in court and s 27 culture reports. Members of the audience will then be able to ask questions of and engage with the Minister and the NZLS President, both during the discussion session and informally later over drinks and nibbles. The Minister has agreed to stay after the formal event finishes to meet members of the profession.
The event will be held at the premises of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Law Society, 51 Shortland Street, Auckland, from 5pm for a 5.30pm start.
This event is open to all members of the profession, in person and online, and attendance will qualify for CPD hours. This event will be free for all NZ Asian Lawyers and Law Society members. There will be a charge of $25 for non-members of NZ Asian Lawyers or the Law Society.
