The inaugural AGM for NZ Asian Lawyers incorporated was ably and efficiently led by Board Secretary Takeshi Ito with support from Board member Augustine Choi resulting in Anjeet Singh, Danielle Cooper, David Liu and Kim McCoy being elected to the Board. In speaking to the Annual Report, the President Mai Chen warmly thanked all current members of the Board and especially Takeshi Ito for his great support right from the founding of the organisation. She also thanked Pam Davidson for support as VP and a big thanks to Augustine Choi without which the incorporated society and AGM could not have been achieved.
Mai Chen said that an organisation is mostly the quality and energy of its people with a bit of IP and some branding. Without the huge contribution of Board members like Karen Ngan driving events for Asian women lawyers, Yvonne Mortimer-Wang and Augustine Choi and David Liu for Asian litigators, Danielle Cooper for young Asian lawyers, Anjeet Singh driving membership and Lynn Van providing mentoring for Asian lawyers, NZ Asian Lawyers could not thought lead or provide benefits and connections and education for our members.
“There are so many people to thank and to the Chief Justice, and to all the heads of bench and judges, the presidents of the NZLS and the NZ Bar Association who have spoken at our events and have partnered and cared about what we do in this organisation, your support has allowed us to get to this point. Which is only the start of an important journey as the number of Asian lawyers grows so let’s get on with the mahi. Plenty more to do.”
