DESCRIPTION:The Asian Women Lawyers Subcommittee of New Zealand Asian Lawyers invite you to a “fireside chat” with Judge Kiriana Tan who will share some insights from her journey to the bench, including some of the opportunities and challenges along the way.\nJudge Tan is of Chinese and Māori descent, with tribal affiliations to Ngāti Ranginui and Ngāti Mutunga. After she graduated from Waikato University in 1998, Judge Tan worked as a litigator in Rotorua, Auckland then Hamilton before becoming a barrister sole in 2008. A large part of her career was focused on Treaty of Waitangi claims and family law. Not only has she been a successful litigator, but she is also a mother of three.\nJudge Tan was raised in a very multi-cultural environment and her ties with both her Asian and Māori background remain strong.
